SUMMARY:Rosh Hashanah 2025
DESCRIPTION:Rosh Hashanah\, the Jewish New Year\, is one of Judaism’s holiest days. Meaning “head of the year” or “first of the year\,” the festival begins on the first day of Tishrei\, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar\, which falls during September or October. Rosh Hashanah commemorates the creation of the world and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe\, a 10-day period of introspection and repentance that culminates in the Yom Kippur holiday\, also known as the Day of Atonement. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are the two “High Holy Days” in the Jewish religion. \nSourced from https://www.history.com/topics/holidays/rosh-hashanah-history

SUMMARY:Enkutatash (Ethiopian New Year)
DESCRIPTION:Every year on September 11\, Ethiopians celebrate their New Year. The holiday is called “Enkutatash\,” which literary means the “gift of jewels.” This naming came from the legendary visit of the Ethiopian Queen Sheba to that of King Solomon of Jerusalem back in 98 BC. During her visit\, this famous queen of Ethiopia brought the king a collection of “jewels.” Upon her return home\, the queen was restocked with a new supply of “enku” (jewels) for her treasury. \nEthiopians called the New Year “Enkutatash” because the period the queen arrived back to Ethiopia coincided with the New Year’s celebration in September. Celebrating the New Year in September\, however\, is originally connected to the Bible as it is the period that God created the Heavens and the Earth and so this period should be the beginning of a New Year. \nIn Ethiopia\, the month of September is called Meskerem. It is a month Ethiopians say goodbye to the three months rainy and thunderous winter and look forward to the pleasant spring weather. It is a month that everyone will be filled with a new spirit of hope for the New Year. \nSourced from https://addisjemari.org/enkutatash-ethiopian-new-year/

SUMMARY:Krishna Janmashtami 2025
DESCRIPTION:Janmashtami\, Hindu festival celebrating the birth (janma) of the god Krishna on the eighth (ashtami) day of the dark fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada (August–September). The number eight has another significance in the Krishna legend in that he is the eighth child of his mother\, Devaki. \n\nThe occasion is observed especially in Mathura and Vrindavan (Brindaban)\, the scenes of Krishna’s childhood and early youth. On the preceding day\, devotees keep a vigil and fast until midnight\, the traditional hour of his birth. Then the image of Krishna is bathed in water and milk\, dressed in new clothes\, and worshipped. Temples and household shrines are decorated with leaves and flowers; sweetmeats are first offered to the god and then distributed as prasada (the god’s leftovers\, which carry his favour) to all the members of the household. The devotees of Krishna commemorate the events of his birth by preparing elaborate representations of Mathura\, where he was born\, the Yamuna River\, over which he was transported to safety\, and Gokul (ancient Vraja)\, the scene of his childhood\, using small images of the god\, the other participants\, and the animals and birds of the forest. Pots of milk are hung from tall poles in the streets\, and men form human pyramids to reach and break the pots—this in imitation of Krishna’s childhood play with the cowherd boys\, when they stole the curds hung out of reach by their mothers. The festival is also a time for group singing and dancing. \nSourced from https://www.britannica.com/topic/Janmashtami \n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Raksha Bandhan 2025
DESCRIPTION:Originating from Sanskrit\, the term Raksha Bandhan translates as “bond of protection.” \nObserved on the full-moon day during Shravana (July-August)\, the 5th month in the Hindu lunar calendar\, Raksha Bandhan is a popular Hindu holiday celebrating the love between a brother and sister. \nOn this day\, a sister ties a threaded amulet\, known as a rakhi\, around a brother’s wrist\, honoring their relationship. The bracelet symbolizes the brother’s oath to protect his sister throughout her life\, and the sister’s prayers and blessings for protection and wellbeing of her brother. He then gives her a gift\, signifying his acceptance of this duty. \nThough Raksha Bandhan is specifically related to the bond of a brother and sister\, the holiday is ultimately a message of the universal brotherhood and sisterhood that can be recognized amongst all people. Because of this\, rakhi are often tied between spouses\, friends\, and even gurus. \nSourced from https://www.hinduamerican.org/blog/5-things-to-know-about-raksha-bandhan

SUMMARY:Pioneer Day
DESCRIPTION:Completing a treacherous thousand-mile exodus\, an ill and exhausted Brigham Young and fellow members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints arrived in Utah’s Great Salt Lake Valley on July 24\, 1847. The Mormon pioneers viewed their arrival as the founding of a Mormon homeland\, hence Pioneer Day. The Mormons\, as they were commonly known\, left their settlement in Nauvoo\, Illinois\, and journeyed West seeking refuge from religious persecution. The final impetus for their trek was the murder of founder and prophet Joseph Smith on June 27\, 1844. \nDetermined to settle in an isolated region\, the pioneers made their way across the plains and over the Rocky Mountains to Utah. They lost many of their party to disease during the winter months. By the time they reached Utah\, the desolate valley was a welcome sight. Potatoes and turnips were soon planted\, and a dam was built. With solemn ceremonies\, the settlers consecrated the two-square-mile city\, and sent back word that the “promised land” had been found. By the end of 1847\, nearly 2\,000 Mormons had settled in the Salt Lake Valley. \n\nJuly 24 is still celebrated as Pioneer Day in Utah and several other Western states. The bravery of the original settlers and their strength of character and physical endurance is commemorated with festivities including games and music\, speeches\, parades\, rodeos\, and picnics. \n\n\nSourced from https://www.loc.gov/item/today-in-history/july-24

SUMMARY:Bastille Day
DESCRIPTION:Bastille Day\, in France and its overseas départements and territories\, holiday marking the anniversary of the fall on July 14\, 1789\, of the Bastille\, in Paris. Originally built as a medieval fortress\, the Bastille eventually came to be used as a state prison. Political prisoners were often held there\, as were citizens detained by the authorities for trial. Some prisoners were held on the direct order of the king\, from which there was no appeal. Although by the late 18th century it was little used and was scheduled to be demolished\, the Bastille had come to symbolize the harsh rule of the Bourbon monarchy. During the unrest of 1789\, on July 14 a mob approached the Bastille to demand the arms and ammunition stored there\, and\, when the forces guarding the structure resisted\, the attackers captured the prison and released the seven prisoners held there. The taking of the Bastille signaled the beginning of the French Revolution\, and it thus became a symbol of the end of the ancien régime. \n\nJuly 14\, often called la fête nationale in France\, became an official holiday in 1880. From the beginning\, speeches\, military parades\, and fireworks\, along with public revelry\, were part of the celebration. The slogan “Vive le 14 juillet!” (“Long live the 14th of July!”) has continued to be associated with the day. The holiday came to be celebrated in the former French colonies and is observed in those places maintaining links to France. French Polynesia especially came to be known for its adaptation of the holiday to its own culture\, with singing\, dancing\, and drumming performances and competitions held throughout the month of July. In addition\, Francophiles worldwide have taken up the observance of Bastille Day\, celebrating with dinners of French cuisine\, for example\, or with concerts of French music. \nSourced from https://www.britannica.com/topic/Bastille-Day

SUMMARY:Independence Day (Fourth of July)
DESCRIPTION:The Fourth of July—also known as Independence Day or July 4th—has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941\, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution. On July 2nd\, 1776\, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence\, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence\, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 to the present day\, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence\, with festivities ranging from fireworks\, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues. \nSourced from https://www.history.com/topics/holidays/july-4th

SUMMARY:Martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev
DESCRIPTION:On 16 June 1606\, the Mughal Emperor Jahangir ordered that Guru Arjan Dev Ji\, the fifth Sikh Guru be tortured and sentenced to death after the Guru had refused to stop preaching his message of God as started by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The Guru was made to sit on a burning hot sheet while boiling hot sand was poured over his body. After enduring five days of unrelenting torture\, Guru Arjan Dev Ji was taken for a bath in the river. As thousands watched he entered the river\, never to be seen again. \nAccordingly\, on the 16 of June of every year since 1606\, the Sikhs commemorate the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji\, the fifth Guru and the first Sikh Martyr. Before the arrest\, torture\, and martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev\, the Sikhs had nothing to do with weapons or violence\, as all the Sikh Gurus had taught the message of compassion\, love\, dedication\, hard work\, worship of one God\, and the commitment to peace and harmony for all the peoples of the world. \nSourced from: https://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Martyrdom_of_Guru_Arjan

SUMMARY:Ascension of Bahá’u’lláh
DESCRIPTION:From the evening of May 28\, 2019 through May 29\, 2019\, Bahá’ís around the world will celebrate the Ascension of Bahá’u’lláh. The holiday commemorates the anniversary of the death of Bahá’u’lláh\, the founder of the Bahá’í Faith. Baha’u’llah was seventy-five years old when he passed away on May 29\, 1892. \nAt the age of 27\, Bahá’u’lláh became a follower of the Báb\, a Persian merchant who began preaching that God would soon send a new prophet similar to Jesus. The Báb and many of his followers were executed by the Ottoman authorities for their beliefs. Bahá’u’lláh was exiled for the same reason\, despite this\, in 1863 he declared that he was the expected prophet the Báb spoke of. Since then\, Bahá’ís have seen Bahá’u’lláh to be a Manifestation of God. \nBahá’u’lláh was imprisoned by Ottoman authorities\, first in Edirne\, and then in the prison city of Acre\, (present-day Israel)\, where he spent his final 24 years of life. On May 9\, 1892\, Bahá’u’lláh contracted a fever which became progressively worse\, and resulted in his death. Just after sunset on the day he passed away\, Bahá’u’lláh was buried in a simple room in a house next to the Mansion of Bahjí in Arce\, where he resided. His burial place is a destination of pilgrimage for his followers\, and the Bahá’í World Centre sits in nearby Haifa. Bahá’u’lláh named Abdu’l-Bahá as his successor and head of the Bahá’í Faith. This was the first time in history that the founder of a world religion had named his successor in a written irrefutable text. This choice of a successor is central to what is known as the Covenant of Bahá’u’lláh. \nWhen Baha’u’llah passed\, many wondered if the newly founded Bahá’í Faith would survive. However\, not only did it survive\, it thrived\, growing rapidly and spreading throughout the world. \nBaha’is will celebrate the Ascension of Baha’u’llah by gathering together in devotion and prayer. These meetings have a somber and meditative tone in remembrance of Baha’u’llah. The Ascension of Baha’u’llah is also one of the nine holy days of the year when work and school is suspended. \nSourced from https://www.bpl.org/blogs/post/the-origins-and-practices-of-holidays-ascension-of-bahaullah-ascension-of-jesus/

It commemorates when the Báb announced in 1844 that he was the new messenger of God. The holiday begins two hours and eleven minutes after sunset on May 22\, which is the exact time the Báb made his declaration. \nThe Báb was born Siyyid Ali-Muhammad on October 20\, 1918\, in Shiraz\, Iran. In 1844\, at the age of twenty-four\, he claimed to be a messenger of God and took the name “Báb\,” which means “gate” or “door” in Arabic to emphasize his role as the portal through which the revelation of God would enter. He served as a herald for Bahá’u’lláh\, who is the central prophet of the Baha’i faith. \nBaha’is celebrate the Declaration of the Báb by gathering together and sharing prayers\, stories\, and reflections. It is one of the nine holy days in the Bahá’í Faith which means that work and school are suspended. \nSourced from https://www.bpl.org/blogs/post/the-origins-and-practices-of-holidays-the-declaration-of-the-bab/#:~:text=On%20May%2023%2C%20Baha’i’s\,the%20B%C3%A1b%20made%20his%20declaration.

SUMMARY:Cinco de Mayo
DESCRIPTION:Cinco de Mayo\, (Spanish: “Fifth of May”) also called Anniversary of the Battle of Puebla\, holiday celebrated in parts of Mexico and the United States in honor of a military victory in 1862 over the French forces of Napoleon III. \nWhen in 1861 Mexico declared a temporary moratorium on the repayment of foreign debts\, English\, Spanish\, and French troops invaded the country. By April 1862 the English and Spanish had withdrawn\, but the French\, with the support of wealthy landowners\, remained in an attempt to establish a monarchy under Maximilian of Austria and to curb U.S. power in North America. On May 5\, 1862\, a poorly equipped mestizo and Zapotec force under the command of General Ignacio Zaragoza defeated French troops at the Battle of Puebla\, southeast of Mexico City; about 1\,000 French troops were killed. Although the fighting continued and the French were not driven out for another five years\, the victory at Puebla became a symbol of Mexican resistance to foreign domination. The city\, which was later renamed Puebla de Zaragoza\, is the site of a museum devoted to the battle\, and the battlefield itself is maintained as a park. \nThe day is celebrated in the state of Puebla with parades\, speeches\, and reenactments of the 1862 battle\, though it is not much noticed in most of the rest of the country. In the mid-20th-century United States\, the celebration of Cinco de Mayo became among Mexican immigrants a way of encouraging pride in their Mexican heritage. Critics observed that enthusiasm for the holiday celebration did not take off with a broader demographic until it was explicitly linked with the promotion of Mexican alcoholic beverages and that many U.S. festivities tended to both perpetuate negative stereotypes of Mexicans and promote excessive drinking. \n\nCinco de Mayo is not to be confused with Mexican Independence Day\, which falls on September 16. The latter holiday was established in 1810\, some 50 years before the Battle of Puebla occurred. \nSourced from https://www.britannica.com/topic/Cinco-de-Mayo

SUMMARY:Yom Ha’Atzmaut 2025
DESCRIPTION:Held on the fifth day of the Hebrew calendar month of Iyar\, Yom Ha’atzmaut is a modern holiday celebrating Israel’s independence in 1948. Israeli Independence Day is always immediately preceded by Yom Hazikaron – Memorial Day for the Fallen Israeli Soldiers. The message of linking these two days is clear: Israelis owe their independence -the very existence of the state – to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for it. \nThe official “switch” from Yom HaZikaron to Yom Ha’atzmaut takes place a few minutes after sundown\, with a ceremony at Jerusalem’s Mount Herzl military cemetery in which the national flag is raised from half-staff to the top of the pole. Usually\, the president of Israel will deliver a speech of congratulations while soldiers representing all the various branches and units of the Israel Defense Forces parade with their flags. In recent decades this smaller-scale ceremony has replaced a much larger daytime parade which was the main event during the 1950s and ‘60s. The evening parade is followed by a torch lighting (hadlakat masuot) ceremony\, symbolically marking the country’s achievements in all spheres of life. \nOther than the official ceremonies\, Israelis celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut in a variety of ways. In the major cities such as Jerusalem and Tel Aviv\, nighttime festivities are focused on the main streets where crowds gather to watch public shows offered for free by the municipalities and the government. In rural communities\, many people spend the night dancing Israeli folk dances or singing Israeli songs. During the daytime thousands of Israeli families go out on hikes and picnics. Many army bases are also opened for civilians to visit to display the achievements of the Israeli Defense Forces. Yom Ha’atzmaut is concluded with the ceremony of granting the “Israel Prize“ recognizing individual Israelis for their unique contribution to the country’s culture\, science\, arts\, and the humanities. \nThe religious character of Yom Ha’atzmaut is still in the process of formation\, and is subject to debate. The Chief Rabbinate of the State has decided that this day should be marked with a recitation of Hallel (Psalms of Praise)\, similar to other joyous Jewish holidays\, and with the reading of a special haftarah (prophetic portion). Most ultra-Orthodox Jews\, in Israel and abroad\, have not accepted this ruling\, and some Orthodox Jews chant the Hallel without the blessing which precedes it. \nOn the other hand\, HaKibbutz HaDati (Modern Orthodox Kibbutz Movement) initiated a version of the prayer Al HaNissim (“Concerning the Miracles”) to be added to the Amidah (the central prayer recited while standing) on Yom Ha’atzmaut\, as it is on Hanukkah and Purim. This special addition to the liturgy of the day was not approved by the Chief Rabbinate but was adopted by the Masorti (Conservative) and the Progressive (Reform) congregations in Israel. Some rabbis argue that Yom Ha’atzmaut should be viewed in conjunction with Hanukkah and Purim\, since all three commemorate a “miraculous” victory of the Jews over an enemy of superior military might. It should be noted that most Israelis do not consider Yom Ha’atzmaut a religious holiday at all. \nAside from Israel\, most Jewish communities around the world have also incorporated Yom Ha’atzmaut into their calendars\, though it has become customary from some to hold the public celebrations on the closest Sunday in order to attract more participation. In Israel it is a formal holiday; so almost everyone has the day off. \nFor American Jews\, celebrating Yom Ha’atzmaut has been a way to express solidarity with the State of Israel and to strengthen their alliance with it. In many communities\, it is one of few occasions in which Jewish organizations and synagogues of different ideologies and denominations cooperate in forming a common celebration. In many North American congregations\, the joint public celebration often is augmented by a religious service. In some cases\, this would occur on the Shabbat closest to Yom Ha’atzmaut and would consist of additional readings added to the service and\, usually\, the singing of Hatikvah (the Israeli national anthem). \nThere is not yet an accepted “tradition” of how to celebrate this holiday\, and only time will tell whether certain customs\, foods\, prayers\, and melodies will be linked in the Jewish mind with this holiday\, as with holidays that emerged many centuries before Yom Ha’atzmaut. For Jews around the world\, joining with Israelis celebrating Yom Ha’atzmaut has become a concrete link in the Jewish connection to the land of Israel. \nSourced from https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/yom-ha-atzmaut-israeli-independence-day

SUMMARY:St. Patrick's Day
DESCRIPTION:St. Patrick’s Day\, feast day (March 17) of St. Patrick\, patron saint of Ireland. Born in Roman Britain in the late 4th century\, he was kidnapped at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave. He escaped but returned about 432 CE to convert the Irish to Christianity. By the time of his death on March 17\, 461\, he had established monasteries\, churches\, and schools. Many legends grew up around him—for example\, that he drove the snakes out of Ireland and used the shamrock to explain the Trinity. SUMMARY:Losar
DESCRIPTION:Known as Losar\, the Tibetan New Year is the most important celebration in the Tibetan calendar\, which consists of twelve lunar months. Losar corresponds to the first day of the first month of the Tibetan calendar. Losar is observed in several countries\, including Tibet\, Bhutan\, Nepal\, and India\, and takes different forms depending on where it is celebrated. \nDuring the fifteen-day celebration\, Tibetan families reunite to engage in a variety of activities that symbolize purification and welcome the arrival of the new year. Part of this involves cleaning one’s home from top to bottom\, having new clothes made for the family to wear during the festival\, and cooking different food offerings made of butter or tsampa (roasted flour) to be placed on the family altar. \nTibetan Buddhists visit their local monastery\, where religious ceremonies featuring songs\, readings of sacred texts\, dances\, and music are organized. Many offerings are made\, prayer flags are hung\, blessings are exchanged\, and butter lamps are lit. \nLosar is also an opportunity to appreciate delicious Tibetan food such as dresil (sweet rice)\, khapsey (Tibetan cookies)\, and guthuk (noodle soup). Different varieties of meat\, bread\, butter tea\, and other dishes are served to guests who are invited to celebrate the holiday. During this period\, chang (rice alcohol) is also very much enjoyed for drinking or making an offering. \nSourced from https://asia.si.edu/whats-on/blog/posts/happy-losar/

SUMMARY:Maghi
DESCRIPTION:Sikhs and Hindus\, especially in India’s Punjab region\, both observe the first day of the month of Magh. In Sikhism\, Maghi honors the martyred Chali Mukte (40 Liberated Ones)\, killed as they resisted an attack on Guru Gobind Singh. The battle took place on 30 Poh (December 29)\, 1705 in Muktsar\, Punjab. The fallen were cremated the next day\, 1 Magh\, which generally falls on January 14 or 15. Hindus across India and Nepal celebrate the event as a harvest festival\, known by Makar Sankranti\, Pongal\, Uttarayan\, and other names. \nMaghi customs include recitals of the entire Guru Granth Sahib\, bathing in holy water\, charitable giving\, and eating kheer (sweet rice porridge). The largest celebration takes place over three days in Muktsar. Believers bathe in the Sarovar (sacred pool) and visit shrines associated with the battle. On the third day\, they walk together from the main shrine to the Tibbi Sahib gurdwara\, sacred to Guru Gobind. \nSourced from https://theguibordcenter.org/faiths/sikhism/sikh-festivals-and-observances/

SUMMARY:Christmas
DESCRIPTION:Christmas\, Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus. The English term Christmas (“mass on Christ’s day”) is of fairly recent origin. The earlier term Yule may have derived from the Germanic jōl or the Anglo-Saxon geōl\, which referred to the feast of the winter solstice. The corresponding terms in other languages—Navidad in Spanish\, Natale in Italian\, Noël in French—all probably denote nativity. The German word Weihnachten denotes “hallowed night.” Since the early 20th century\, Christmas has also been a secular family holiday\, observed by Christians and non-Christians alike\, devoid of Christian elements\, and marked by an increasingly elaborate exchange of gifts. In this secular Christmas celebration\, a mythical figure named Santa Claus plays the pivotal role. \n\n\nSourced from https://www.britannica.com/topic/Christmas

SUMMARY:The Day of the Covenant
DESCRIPTION:The Day of the Covenant is a Baha’i holy day honoring the Covenant of Baha’u’llah and\, in particular\, ‘Abdu’l-Baha (1844–1921) as the “Centre of the Covenant.” …the Covenant established by Baha’u’llah protects the Baha’i religion from schism. In anticipation of his eventual passing\, Baha’u’llah called on all Baha’is to turn to ‘Abdu’l-Baha (Baha’u’llah’s eldest son) as successor (inerrant leader of the Baha’i community)\, interpreter (authorized exponent of Baha’u’llah’s teachings)\, and exemplar (perfect embodiment of Baha’i virtues and morality). This triple function has been as powerful in its influence on the future course and fortunes of the Baha’i community as ‘Abdu’l-Baha’s station is conceptually and functionally distinctive\, and remains so. \nSourced from https://www.bahai.us/day-of-the-covenant

SUMMARY:Guru Nanak Jayanti
DESCRIPTION:This day celebrates the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji\, founder and first Guru of Sikhism. It is considered one of the most important Sikh holy days. Most Sikhs have traditionally celebrated Guru Nanak Jayanti in November\, following the Nanakshahi calendar\, However\, some scholars believe it should be celebrated on Baisakhi Day\, usually falling in April. (The Guru was born on Baisakhi Day\, April 5\, 1469\, in what is now Punjab Province\, Pakistan. \nTwo days before the festival\, events begin that include Akhand Paath\, a 48-hour reading of the Guru Granth Sahib at gurdwaras (temples). The next day\, Sikhs visit the gurdwara to chant hymns and hold Nagar Kirtan. On the festival day\, celebrations include readings\, music\, and assemblies. At langars\, or community kitchens\, volunteers serve food and a special sweet called karah prashad. \nSourced from https://theguibordcenter.org/faiths/sikhism/sikh-festivals-and-observances/

SUMMARY:Remembrance/Veteran's Day
DESCRIPTION:World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” – officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28\, 1919\, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles\, France. However\, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice\, or temporary cessation of hostilities\, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason\, November 11\, 1918\, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.” \nVeterans Day continues to be observed on November 11\, regardless of what day of the week on which it falls. The restoration of the observance of Veterans Day to November 11 not only preserves the historical significance of the date\, but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day: A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism\, love of country\, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. \nSourced from https://department.va.gov/veterans-day/history-of-veterans-day

SUMMARY:Guru Gaddi
DESCRIPTION:Guru Gobind Singh\, the tenth Sikh Guru\, installed the Siri Guru Granth Sahib as Guru October 20\, 1706. This day is celebrated today as “Guru Gaddi Day” each year. This is often celebrated with special Kirtan programs\, Akhand Paths (continuous reading of the full Siri Guru Granth Sahib) and Sikh parades. \nAt the time of His death in 1708\, Guru Gobind Singh Ji passed the mantle of the Guruship to the Siri Guru Granth Sahib. This ended the time of the physical Gurus of the Sikhs. Guru Gobind Singh Ji declared that the Word of God\, embodied in the Siri Guru Granth Sahib\, was to be Guru for the Sikhs for all time. He said: \n“O Beloved Khalsa\, let any who desire to behold me\, behold the Guru Granth. Obey the Granth Sahib\, for it is the visible body of the Guru. Let any who desire to meet me\, diligently search its Bani.” \nThe Siri Guru Granth Sahib remains the Spiritual Light and Guide for the Sikh community today. \nSourced from https://www.sikhdharma.org/topics/guru-gaddi-day-2

DESCRIPTION:Shemini Atzeret\, (Hebrew: “Eighth Day of the Solemn Assembly”)\, a Jewish religious festival on the eighth day of Sukkoth (Feast of Booths)\, considered by some to be an independent celebration immediately following Sukkoth. In Old Testament times a distinction was made regarding sacrifices: whereas 70 sacrifices were offered on the first seven days of Sukkoth to signify the “70 nations” constituting all humanity\, a single ram and a single bullock were sacrificed on the eighth day to symbolize Israel’s special relationship to God. In Israel\, Simchat Torah is also celebrated on the eighth day of Sukkoth\, although in other countries it is celebrated on the ninth day. \nSourced from https://www.britannica.com/topic/Shemini-Atzeret
